Photos in Prague!!

Day four....Friday 13th May

Today is our last day and we all had to get up early and pack so that we are out of the hostel for 10am. Our room was pretty messy so we had to get everything tidied up and Kaleigh had to collect all our keys up to take back the reception. We were all rushing around making sure that we had packed everything and had to repack our suitcases as we couldn’t fit everything in! Was a bit of a nightmare!

Finally we were ready to check out and Kaleigh and Lorna went down to reception to hand back all of our cards as we were going to Prague Cathedral we left our suitcases in the room so that we didn’t haven to carry them everywhere! Kristy and I had to collect everyone’s Koruna’s again but this was cheaper as we only had to pay 30 Koruna’s as we had a tram ticket from yesterday. We set of from the hostel around 10:30 and had to catch a tram up the hill near Prague Cathedral. We then had to walk up a million of steps and believe me it wasn’t fun! Blaise and me had trouble Lol once we were at the top the view was amazing and we brought a ticket to visit the castle and cathedral however it wasn’t that good although it was very pretty we didn’t learn much and it wasn’t worth the money which we paid! It was very nice to look round we then made our way back down the steps and it was much easier to walk down! These are the lovely pictures!!

We then walked across Charles Bridge were we made our wish! Hasn’t come true yet! Once we done this we then found a restaurant to have lunch and after we then had free time we all had to be back on the tram by 4 and go back to the hostel to be ready for when the shuttle service came to pick us up. We still had our quiz to do but we were going to this at the airport.

The shuttle service came to pick us up at 17:30 and we had to say goodbye to the hostel and go back to the airport to get a flight home! I've had a really good time in Prague and do not want to go home!! However we have to! Lol Once we arrived at the airport Kristy got everyone’s boarding passes out as she was looking after them for the flight home and she didn’t lose them! Lol coming home was a bit of a nightmare as me and Kristy got confused as we weren’t sure if we had to line up to check in even though we had already checked in online. However we lined up and found out we didn’t need to line up as we had already checked in but it was all good everything got sorted out! We then had to of through passport control and then on the other side me and Kristy had to find an area were we could do our group quiz! Steph DC and Gemma organised the quiz and there were 11 questions on Prague and then one question on every person in the group! Mine was how many real ugg boats did i own and everyone got it correct! At the end of the quiz Steph and Gemma marked them and added up the results however we had to board the flight home so we couldn’t find out the results until we were on the mini bus on the way home.

The flight home was very entertaining and we had very nice cabin crew who were doing impressions of 'the only way is Essex' and through the tannoy he did a lovely speech and made us all laugh! And its one of the best flights i have been on and kept us amused.

Once we were landed we had to go through passport control and as we had hand luggage we didn’t have to wait for any luggage so we could go right through were we met Denise Steph DC mum who then drove us back to Colchester Institute and dropped some of us back at Braintree.

So for the results of the quiz it was a very close draw however we all knew who the best team was and that was Kristy and me of course we WON!!!!  Steph and Gemma brought us shot glasses which said Prague Czech me out!! And I’ve already used it!!

That’s Prague finished now and all we had to do now is catch up on some much needed sleep! Unpack and write up the evaluation of how well we done! How fun!!

Catch up soon!!! x

Day three...Thursday 12th May

Day 3 in Prague!!

Today is the traditional Czech festival and we are all excited! Getting to learn some on the culture! It’s going to be a good day! As the festival wasn’t till 1 we all had free time to do what we wanted in the morning which was good as us girls needed to catch up on some much needed sleep. We all had to be ready for 12:30 which was nice as we didn’t have to rush around. Again Kristy and I had to collect up everyone's money which was 120 Koruna’s each once we had got all the tickets,

Gemma had to direct us to the tram stop as this was one of the activities which she had organised. We had to catch a metro to Vltavska (think that the right stop) and the walk to the Czech festival. The festival had lots of tents and even some rides which Blaise and Steph b tested out! Didn’t really go down well as Blaise felt unwell afterwards, at the festival we had to use Tollars instead of money. Just a coin and we had 12 Tollars. We choose to have book into tent 2 and we made our way to tent 2 where women and men where dressed up in traditional Czech outfit looked rather good! They then came over to ask what we wanted to drink and eat. The food was extremely cheap i tried Beef Goulash which was yummy; other people had hotdogs and chicken! Once we had our food we decided to look at the other tents to see what they were like as we could hear music and the tent which we were in wasn’t really playing much!

We left the Czech festival around 9 ish and headed back to the Hostel where we had to catch the metro and tram back. Tomorrow is our last day so some of us went back to pack our suitcases before heading down into the bar area. We all had brought t-shirts saying i love Prague so everyone on the trip was signing these!

That’s day 3 got to get ready for day 4 which is going home day! I've had such a good time i really don’t want to go home!!!

Day two... 11th May

So far Prague has been so good and we've only been here 1 day!! Today we will be going on a 3 hour walking tour! I know very long! First of all we all had to meet in the bar downstairs for 08:30 this is where we had breakfast we had to go to reception and pay for our breakfast. It was a buffet so we could eat however much we wanted. We knew that we could eggs and bacon for breakfast however we didn’t realise that we had to cook it ourselves! I'm not that good at cooking eggs so I decided that I would stick to toast! Not all of us had breakfast as Kristy, Steph DC, Kaleigh and Lauren decided that they wanted to find a shop so that they could buy their own breakfast as the one at Sir Toby’s was 125 Koruna’s!

Once everyone had breakfast Kristy and I then had to collect everyone’s money up for the tram and metro tickets which cost 120 Koruna’s we could purchase this from Sir Toby’s hostel. Then it was Steph D-C’s job to get us to the tram stop so that we could catch a tram down into Old Town. We meet our tour guide in Old Town who then took us all around Prague, it was a very hot days and some parts of the tour were really interesting and some werent! Once we finished our tour the tour guy took us to some places which we were nice to eat in. I decided that i wanted to try some Czech food which was rather yummy! After lunch we were allowed free time and went off in our group and i was with Steph B who wanted to find a Keyring! which was a nightmare! We had to be back at the Hostel at a certain time so that we could get ready for the river cruise.

Steph had to then direct us to the next tram stop so that we could go to the river cruise. We had to wait a little while before we could board the boat but it didnt take long. The river cruise was really good apart from the jazz band who didnt really play for long! was a bit of a let down. However the food was soon served and we all went up and got some! Once everyone had finished there dinner some of the group went upstairs on the top deck and that was really nice! We chatted away and time flew by as it was 10 and the cruise had finished.
We then made our way back to the hostel after the river cruise finished and decided that we didnt want to go to bad so we went down to the bar! Me and Lauren palyed chess! had no idea what we were doing but a boy in the bar said he was knew chess! Lauren took him before i had a chance to get him and i lost the game!! We then went upstairs to bed but no one could sleep! Now for day 3 see what it brings!!

Day one... Tuesday 10th May

On Tuesday 10th may we all had to be in college for 10 where we had to do a lesson with Marcello. We had to take our luggage into college it was a nightmare! We left the college around 13:30 and Steph D.C mum Denise drove is to Stansted Airport. We got there around 14:30. Once we were inside the airport me and Kristy had to direct everyone to the security gates. As i was looking after the boarding passes for the flight to Prague i handed them out to everyone before we went through security. As we were taking hand luggage through we had to have all our liquids in a clear plastic bags. We were only allowed 10 items and it was a nightmare! It took so long to get through security as some people had to many liquids and others didn’t have the right clear plastic bag what was needed. Some people had to have their liquids searched to make sure that they weren’t over the 100 ml. It took around 1 hour to get through security but we waited for everyone on the other side. Once everyone was through security everyone was allowed to look through duty free and we then had a meeting point for 16:00.
We found our departure gate and had to get the shuttle to out gate and then had to queue. The flight was only 1 hour 30 minutes and this went really quickly. Once we arrived in Prague Kristy and i had to collect everyone’s money for the shuttle so that we could pay them. We then went through to arrivals and found the company which we were using who then drove us to Sir Toby’s hostel. Kristy paid the driver and then i asked for a receipt so that we had proof that we paid for the return journey already. Whilst i was getting the receipt Kaleigh and Lorna went into the hostel to book in we all had our own cards to use! At first we couldn’t find our room as we didn’t realise that we had to go through one door to get to another! Finally we found it and so far the hostel looked really nice! I hadn’t even gone to check out the bar yet!
Our beautiful dormAt around 8 in the evening we all decided that we wanted to go out for a meal and we choose to go to a pizzeria and the food was so cheap. We all decided that we would pay our bill separately but that didn’t go so well as the man overcharged Kaleigh and said we hadn’t paid for all our meals! It was crazy! Marcello went in to try and sort it out but it didn’t work! We wasn’t going back there! Once we arrived back at the hostel we all decided that we wanted to go and check out the bar it was really cosy and nice and we all ordered our drink and started talking to some more people! We stayed down in the bar until it closes which was around 1 in the morning and we all made our way back! Trying to sleep that night wasn’t good as we were all chatting! However finally we all got to sleep! Now for day two!!

6th May - Car Wash!!

On 6th May we took part in a car wash day! This was our last fundraising event and it was very tiring but we all had a good day.
We were in different teams so that we could wash lots of cars! These were Transport (Me and Kristy) Admin and communication (Lauren and Ross) Fundraising team (Steph B, Blaise and Hayley) Accommodation (Lorna and Kaleigh) and Attraction (Steph D.C and Justine as Gemma wasn’t there.)
Steph B sent out an e-mail which asked everyone if they wanted there car wash and we had lots of responses as 20 people replied back. The staff which replied had to give us their registration, colour, make and model of their car and where they normally park so that we could find there car and wash it!
We got to college at 9 and made sure that everyone had all there buckets, shampoo, sponge and chamois! There was a tap outside not to far away from our first car however the water was freezing cold! Lol Steph B told us what cars we had to wash and where to find them! The first car me and Kristy washed was dirty and we had trouble getting the windows clean they went all smeary! I thought it would take us to 20 minutes to wash a car it took me and Kristy about 1 hour. By the first car we was already tired but we’d only just started Lol once we washed the car we then had to go to the department which they worked in to collect the money! We had a huge car which we had to wash (Shown in the picture) and we worked as a group to do it. We had to put Lorna on Kaleigh shoulders so that we could reach the roof!
We finally washed 25 cars at around 14:30 and as a group we were relived as we were all so tired! We then went back to count how much money we raised and this was a grand total of £137.45!! which was really good and everyone did so well! All together with all of the fundraising we raised £404 which covers the accommodation and walking tour expenses. As we had £45 pound left over we decided we would give it to NSPCC as this was our charity which we picked on our first fund raising event to give to!
With the money which was raised Kaleigh is going to get all the money changed up as she is on the accommodation team so that we can pay for the hostel whilst in Prague!
Finally all we have left to do now is pack for Prague!!! And on 10th May we will be flying to Prague!! It’s going to be so good i cant wait!!!

Boarding Passes...

On Thursday 5th May Kristy and I logged on to easyJet to print out the groups online boarding passes. This allows us to go through security much quicker as we won’t have to check in once we are at the airport as we only have hand luggage. We printed of the boarding passes for the way there and the way back and as Kristy and I are on the transport team both of us have to look after the boarding passes there and one on the way back. I choose the boarding passes for the flight to Prague as it means i wouldn’t have to look after them whilst we are in Prague! Lol I'm sneaky! That means Kristy has to look after the boarding passes for the flight home from Prague. However just in case one of us loses these boarding passes Justine has a copy to!

Parents Presentation evening!! 28th April...

On 28th April we had our parent’s presentation evening and as a group we all had different slides which we had to talk about. The evening started at 18:00 and this was a chance for all the parents to find out what we were doing and we had to sign the code of conduct. I had to produce the presentation which i must say looked rather good! Haha and this is also when all parents were given the pre departure booklet which Kaleigh produced this had all our contact details in case there was an emergency and parents needed to get in contact with us or the other way round.

As it was Kristy’s destination which got picked Kristy had to introduce the presentation about why it was chosen and had to talk about the background information and the climate. As i was part of the transport team i then had to go on and talk about the transfer and flight details before talking about the accommodation which was Kaleigh slide. Steph D.c then went on to talk about the activities which we had chosen to do whilst in Prague and then Lauren, Blaise, Hayley and Ross had to talk about the itinerary and what we were doing on different days. Steph b then went on to talk about safety info and emergency contacts and after Lorna went on to talk about the budget table and everything which had been paid for and still needed to be paid for. The last slide was the checklist and everything which we must take before asking if parents had any questions.

Justine brought in a small hand luggage suitcase so that we could see what size suitcase we could bring. The presentation lasted around 30 minutes and it went really well and we covered everything which we needed to.

Meeting 5 - 8th April....

Today we had our 5th meeting were we had to discuss the following things:
1. Money Raised
2. Car wash
3. Finalise Itinerary
4. Check list
5. Code of Conduct

Throughout the preparation of the trip to Prague we have taken part in different fundraising events to raise money and in total we have raised £206.00 this was the fundraising at Christmas and the cake sale. Justine ran the half marathon for ‘Help the Heroes’ and as a group we had to raise money and whatever we made as a group Justine would match this. Some of us brought in £5 to go towards the marathon and in total with Justine’s money we raised about £55 pound which will be added to the total of the money raised so far.

Our next fundraiser is on 6th May which is a car wash. We all had to discuss what we are all going to bring in. Everyone needs to bring in car shampoo, buckets, sponge and chamois. The fundraising team also need to make posters for the car wash to put up around the college so students know what is happening and can get there car washed. Also on the day of the car wash everyone must wear suitable clothing and this is no jewellery, no jeans and suitable clothing which we dry out quick if it is wet.

Once we had discussed the car wash we then had to finalise the itinerary. This was Laurens task as we had now chosen what we were doing on Thursday in Prague and this was to go to a Traditional Czech Festival this cost £23 per person and are given tollars on the day of the festival you can buy food, drink and souvenirs. As we had to transfer the money over to the festival account Lauren very kindly offered to do this and we all had to pay the money to her.  Once the itinerary had been finalised we then had to write up the check list of the things which we must take on the trip to Prague and this was put on the pre departure booklet.

As a group we then had to agree to the code of conduct which are the dos and don’ts we will have to sign that we agree to this on the presentation evening which is on 3rd May and as Kaleigh produced the pre departure booklet to contribute in the group i will putting together the PowerPoint presentation for the presentation for the evening and we are having a practice run through on 28th April.

This was the last meeting before our trip to Prague so we can now get ready for the presentation evening and car wash!!

Not long now!! X

First Aid... 4th April

On 4th April we had our first aid training course this last for 3 hours and it started at 13:00 and ended at 16:00. We all passed the first aid training and this lasts for 3 years. We all learned what to do in case there is an accident whilst in Prague. The whole of the group took part in the first aid course except Lauren who already has a first aid certificate.

Checking for Blaise’s breathing before
putting her into recovery position

During the first aid training we learnt a lot of different things the first thing which we learnt was how to put someone in the recovery position if they were unconscious. We had to follow a procedure which is called DR. ABC which means *Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing and Compression* This is what we must follow when we check to see if someone is conscious before putting them in the recovery position. Once we knew how to put someone in recovery position we took it in turns to try it out on each other.
If the person who was unconscious was not breathing then we then have to do compression/CPR on them. This is were we have to do 30 compressions for every 2 breaths each of these breaths must last for 4 seconds. We must keep repeating this and not stop unless the ambulance arrives, you can’t do it anymore or the person starts to breathe again.
This is a picture of me trying to do
CPR on a dummy
We then tried this on all on dummies and had to keep repeating it until Ross (Our trainer) told us to stop. We had to keep going and it really tired you out. I didn’t realise how hard it would be but it was a good to learn. After we learnt how to do the recovery position and CPR we then went on to learn how to apply a bandage to stop heavy bleeding and how to stop someone from choking.
This is all we learnt and after we all took part in a Q & A session to see if everyone remembered everything.

Cake Stall 1st April.....

Today we did our second fundraiser for Prague and did a cake stall. Everyone in the class had to make lots of different cakes we had so many!! We had chocolate cakes, cupcakes, crispy cakes, muffins, cookies and lots more. We sold all the cakes at all different prices the most being £1.50 and these looked so nice!! These are the cakes which i made.
As a group we all took it in turns to serve different people. Some people were handling the cakes and others where given people their change. When the stall wasn’t very busy Kaleigh, Lorna, Kristy, Blaise, Ross and Gemma went round the college to different rooms and offices to see if anyone wanted to buy any. We started the cakes stall at 09:00 and had sold out by 12:30. At 12:30 we still had some cakes left over and we lowered the prices of these to sell them all.
Once all the cakes were sold we counted the money to see how much was raised for our trip. Once this was done Lorna and Kaleigh went to the finance department to bank the money.
Today was such a successful day and we made a lot of money more than we thought we would with a total of £136.32. This added to the fundraiser we did at Christmas came to £206.

These two fundraisers have been very successful and our next one will be on 6th May with a car wash!!!
That’s all for now
Speak to you later.

Risk Assessment Assignment...

In our lessons we had to produce a risk assessment booklet for Prague. In this booklet we had to identify the risks and hazards in Prague and how we can minimise these risks. We had to write two risks for each section the sections were transfers, accommodation, act ivities and around Prague.

Flights have changed...

On Monday 21st March I received a e-mail from easyJet saying that the flight have been changed. The original flight was on 10th May at 16:40 this has been changed to 10th May at 16:45 this has only changed by 5 minutes so this doesn’t mess up any plans which we have already made.

18th February Meeting Four...

We all had a fourth meeting on Friday 18th February. Everyone has now all handed in their passports, EHIC and EV 4 forms. All the medical tables have been completed so Justine knows who to contact in case of an emergency.

We have to produce a pre departure booklet which Kaleigh is  putting this together we all had to send her pieces of the booklet where we had to write about the climate, flight details, contact numbers, where Prague is and the population as well as the local currency and phrases.

All transfers in the UK have been sorted. Steph D-C’s mum is going to take us to the airport in the college minibus. Our flight from Stansted departs at 16:40 which means we will meet at the college at 13:45 and leave at 14:00 and we will arrive at London Stansted airport for 15:00 we don’t need to check in and this will save time. The inbound flight lands at 20:55 which means we will arrive back at college around 22:30.
Transfers have also all been sorted out the hostel which we booked with provide transfers and we have booked with them. Kaleigh sorted this out and all the payments as she contacted the hostel about the accommodation however me and Kristy wrote the final e-mail to confirm everything.  This will cost about £11 per person.

As a group we all have to present a PowerPoint to our parents this will be on 3rd May and I will be putting the PowerPoint presentation together. In our groups we will all have a slide about what we are doing in Prague, how much it will costs, the accommodation we are staying in and when we are going to Prague. The parents will then all be given a pre departure booklet so they know what is happening and where we are going.

Steph DC and Gemma are organising the activities which we are going to do whilst in Prague. We all want to go on a Segway tour. Steph has sent the company e-mails asking them about how much it will cost and if we can do it however they haven’t replied we found a UK phone number and Steph is going to phone them. This costs £52 person and lasts 3 hours. As well as do the Segway tour we all want to visit Prague’s castle which costs £5 per person and go on a jazz river cruise. This cruise costs £28 pound including food.
We are all doing a fundraising event and we are doing a cake sale. Steph B, Blaise and Hayley  are going to approach supermarkets to see if they will make a donation to our cake sale. Steph B will be going to Tesco’s, Blaise to Sainsbury’s and Hayley to Asda. The team also decided that they needed to get napkins, plates and rubber gloves with Steph DC said she would be able to get. Blaise said she would bring in the table cloths to make the stall look appealing. However money pots and change need to be found.
We have decided that we will do a car wash on 6th May as we had to change it due to the royal wedding.
Lorna has put together a budget table to find out how much we have spent and to see how much it costs. We are waiting for the Segway tour costing so that Kaleigh can put it into the pre departure booklet.
Thats all for now!
Speak to you later! :D xx

January 21st Meeting three....

Today we had another meeting, and everyone needed to bring in their passports, EHIC cards and EV4 forms most people have brought these in however some people still need to hand these in. These all needed to be photocopied. We also had to sign a roles and responsibilities form this shows us the allocated jobs which we must do in our groups. We all got a copy of these so nobody could forget what they were doing. We all then had to fill in a medical sheet, which had our emergency contact details down incase anything happened whilst we were in Prague!
Sir Toby's Hostel Prague

We have now booked out hostel!! We had a choice of two hostels to stay in when we went to prague, we looked at the reviews of the hotel, locaion and the photos of the hotel. As a groups we all decided that wanted to stay in Sir Tobys!! (It has a cute dog!!)

Sir Toby's Hostel PragueThe rooming arrangements are one dorm for 10 girls with shared shower facilities, 1 twin wirh private shower facilities this will be for Ross and Marcello and 1 single room for justine which also has private shower facilities. The total cost to stay in Sir Tobys is €837 which works out £713 we then got a 10% discount the price after this is €713 which works out as £642 and a price of £58.40 per person and £19.50 per night.

The hostel looks really nice and clean and also has a bar downstairs which is always good!! These are the pictures, so nice!! Sir Tobys also does breakfasts however there is a small charge from £1 - £4 this is for a buffet breakfast and we get to choose the style of breakfast we want. The hostel also offers transfers to and from the airport and this costs roughly £8 per person. This means we won't have to worry about finding out hostel!!
Sir Toby's Hostel Prague
We booked the accommodation and were all excited about going to Prague, the next thing we need to decided on is the attractions which we want to see. That the next topic in our meeting! We are hopefully going to hold another fund raising event on 1st april and will be a cake sale!!

Thats all for now x

14th January 2011...

Today we did not have a meeting instead we had to put together a pre departure booklet for Prague, in our separate groups we had to find out different things to put into the booklet. Kaleigh is putting the booklet together and mine and Kristy’s role is to find what the climate is like in Prague using diagrams. Whilst we were researching the climate we found out that, Weather in Prague can change depending on the weather patterns. Prague has a continental weather climate with hot summers and cold winter. The best time to visit Prague is between May – September as this is usually when the weather is controllable, as its not too hot and not too cold, and the city is not overcrowded. During the summer period temperatures can usually reach 35C and in the winter can reach -15C. Spring and summer are usually he months to have the sunniest hours. Snow is rare in Prague during winter and rainfall is pretty much regular throughout the year, all seasons in Prague are beautiful, no matter what the weather is like.
As well as find out what the climate is like in Prague we also had to send Kaleigh the details of the flight details to add to the pre departure booklet the flight details are:

Booking the Flights!...

Monday 10th January
On Monday Kristy and I booked the flights to Prague, this was because easyJet had a sale on a flights booked and this ended Tuesday. Me and Kristy booked the flights together as we are the Transport team and this is one of the jobs which we had to do. When you book the flights you must take everyone name down so we had do write everyone’s name making sure that they were spelt correctly. The flights were cheap compared to when we last looked at them. We have decided as a group that we would only be taking hand luggage which means that we will save time and check-in online and this saves us time at the airport. We are travelling to Prague on 10th May 2011 – 13th May 2011. We are flying from London Stansted airport, we have to be at the airport 2 hours before departure the flight is due to take off at 16:40 and land in Prague at 19:30. We fly back from Prague on 13th May and out flight departure time is at 20:00 and we are due to land at London Stansted at 20:55. The total price for the flights was £759.56 and this is for 13 people to travel to Prague This works out as £69 per person.
