On 4th April we had our first aid training course this last for 3 hours and it started at 13:00 and ended at 16:00. We all passed the first aid training and this lasts for 3 years. We all learned what to do in case there is an accident whilst in Prague. The whole of the group took part in the first aid course except Lauren who already has a first aid certificate.
Checking for Blaise’s breathing before putting her into recovery position |
During the first aid training we learnt a lot of different things the first thing which we learnt was how to put someone in the recovery position if they were unconscious. We had to follow a procedure which is called DR. ABC which means *Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing and Compression* This is what we must follow when we check to see if someone is conscious before putting them in the recovery position. Once we knew how to put someone in recovery position we took it in turns to try it out on each other.
If the person who was unconscious was not breathing then we then have to do compression/CPR on them. This is were we have to do 30 compressions for every 2 breaths each of these breaths must last for 4 seconds. We must keep repeating this and not stop unless the ambulance arrives, you can’t do it anymore or the person starts to breathe again.

We then tried this on all on dummies and had to keep repeating it until Ross (Our trainer) told us to stop. We had to keep going and it really tired you out. I didn’t realise how hard it would be but it was a good to learn. After we learnt how to do the recovery position and CPR we then went on to learn how to apply a bandage to stop heavy bleeding and how to stop someone from choking.
This is all we learnt and after we all took part in a Q & A session to see if everyone remembered everything.
